Amanda Mathis began volunteering with Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in 2004 and quickly learned the agency was a perfect fit for her passion for agriculture and conservation. She started full time with the agency in 2005 and served as a Soil Conservationist and District Conservationist in various counties, assisting producers and conservation partners with the development and implementation of site-specific conservation plans.
In 2015, Mathis became Arkansas’ first Assistant State Conservationist for Partnerships, where she worked with a broad conservation network to enhance collaborative efforts to achieve the conservation mission. She led the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) and the Mississippi River Basin Initiative (MRBI) for the state. She now serves as the Arkansas State Conservationist.
She grew up on a cattle operation in northwest Arkansas and boasts a deep love for agriculture, a belief in the power of great partnerships, and voluntary, locally led conservation efforts.
Mathis holds a degree in Conservation and Wildlife Management from the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, MO and a Masters in Crop Soil and Environmental Sciences from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She and her husband, Kevin, reside on their cow-calf operation and enjoy the company of their four rescue dogs.
Come see her presentation - Mid-South Rice – A Career Perspective - at the Arkansas Soil and Water Education Conference and Irrigation EXPO at the Arkansas State University Student Union on Jan. 29, 2025. You can register here.
