Meet our 2023 Speaker: Dr. Shannon Speir

Dr. Shannon Speir is the Assistant Professor of Water Quality in the Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Arkansas.

She is an ecosystem ecologist and stream biogeochemist with nearly a decade of experience working in agricultural streams.

Dr. Speir's research program focuses on stream ecosystem function and nutrient transformations in both human- and climate-impacted freshwater systems, combining both field and laboratory studies, as well as the use of high-frequency sensing, to determine the mechanisms driving biogeochemical transformations and nutrient transport. Moreover, she aims to ground her research in "translational ecology" where her group's findings have real-world impacts on conservation/restoration efforts and policy.
